How to use this organizer

Use this elementary organizer before asking students to explain a chart. It slows the class down so students first notice what is actually on the page: titles, labels, categories, values, symbols, and other visible chart parts.

Best fit

This version is helpful when students jump straight to an answer before orienting to the chart. It can be used with any simple classroom graph, published chart, or Chart-Ed product pack.

Teacher move

Have students name three things they notice before they are allowed to make a claim. This builds the habit of looking before interpreting.
